The 2002 Annual Stability Conference was held April 24-27, 2002 in Seattle Washington. The conference was again held in conjunction with AISC's North American Steel Construction Conference.
The inaugural Lynn S. Beedle Award was presented to Professor Theodore Galambos during the conference Plenary Session. The voting for the first winner was unanimous and succeeded in bribing Ted into attending the conference before flying to L.A. to receive another award from AISC. During the same session, SSRC's new Vice-Chairman, Professor Samuel Easterling, was presented with the T.R. Higgins Award from AISC.
On Friday night, during the SSRC reception, Mr. Peter Dusicka of University of Nevada, Reno was presented with the third Sarada M. and Raju A. Vinnakota Award for his paper written with Prof. Ahmad Itani titled "Behavior of Built-Up Shear Links Under Large Cyclic Deformations". Competition for the Award was close, with the third tie in as many years. This year 14 papers, out of 31 total, were under consideration by the Award Committee. Congratulations go out to all students for another round of exemplary papers and presentation and of course many thanks to Prof. Vinnakota for enabling SSRC to present this award.
