Currently, in 1981, the Structural Stability Research Council is recognized throughout the world for its objective approach and for the technical excellence of its work. This historical review of the Council's activities was prepared by the writer upon request by the Executive Committee of the Council and was made possible by the help and cooperation of the Current Council Officers and Headquarters Staff, including J. S. B. Iffland, J. L. Durkee, L. S. Beedle, M. N. Aydinoglu, and L. G. Federinic. For the writer, it has been a unique privilege not only to have been associated with the Council since its founding but also to have had the opportunity to prepare this report.
